Edward
Schaefer, PhD holds a doctorate in liturgical music from the Catholic
University of America and is director of choral activities at Gonzaga
University, where he directs three choral ensembles, including the Gonzaga
University Gregorian Schola which sings for a weekly Gregorian Mass and for
regional and national competitions and conventions. His chant-related
publications include Missa Canata: A Notated Sacramentary and
translation of a book by Dom Daniel Saulnier, OSB entitled Gregorian Chant:
A Guide and the The Gregorian Modes. His newest book, The Music of the
Catholic Church: The Search for an Acceptable Offering, will be published
next year by the Liturgical Institute’s imprint, Hillenbrand Books.
Colleen Carter is
a graduate student in musicology at the University of Southern California.
She completed her studies in music literature at Gonzaga University in 2006
with a thesis entitled, "The Offertory Motets of Palestrina in Contemporary
Liturgy." Colleen was a member of the Gonzaga University Gregorian Schola
for four years and is also an accomplished harpist.
A graduate student in
Philosophy at Gonzaga University, Margaret Rankin completed her
studies in music at Gonzaga University in 2006. Margaret’s early education
as a home-schooled student encompassed a wide range of experiences,
including regular exposure to chant via recordings. This exposure ultimately
led her to the Gonzaga Gregorian Schola, of which she has been a leading
member for four years.
