Sacred Music Retreat

A Guided Retreat for Church Musicians

June 20th to June 25th, 2010

USML Conference Center, Mundelein, IL
Fr. John-Mark Missio, Retreat Master

The Liturgical Institute proudly presents its fifth annual spiritual retreat for church musicians. Intended to combine theological and practical aspects of church music with prayer and meditation, the retreat takes place on the beautiful campus of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake just outside of Chicago.

This year Fr. John-Mark Missio returns to guide retreatants through a historical survey of sacred music, exploring the interplay between music and spirituality in each era.  Spiritual talks, silence, prayer, rest and recreation complement opportunities to sing and listen to some great music from the remote past to the present day.

Each day includes spiritual conferences with Fr. John-Mark Missio, Mass chanted with English propers, sung morning, midday and evening prayer, and free time for personal prayer and meditation. Confession and spiritual direction are available if desired. Each day also offers  rehearsal for a retreat schola led by noted Chicago composer and conductor Kevin Allen which will sing at the Solemn Mass of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. A special lecture by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Denver will enrich the week.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to pray, learn, rest and recharge for your music ministry!
