THE GRADUATE BOARD AND ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES
The Graduate Board of the Council of the Ecclesiastical Faculty administers the admissions process in cooperation with the president of the Ecclesiastical Faculty, who is also the rector of Mundelein Seminary. The dean of the faculty and the chair of the Department of Systematic Theology are members of the Graduate Board ex officio. The Council of the Ecclesiastical Faculty elects additional faculty members to serve on the Graduate Board. The admissions process is conducted in communication with the president of the Ecclesiastical Faculty so that there can be harmonious cooperation and collaboration among the various parts of the university.
The Graduate Board meets under the direction of the dean to make decisions concerning the admission of candidates to the degree programs. Letters of recommendations, letters from the applicants, GPA's, and past performance are considered. On the basis of these indicators, the board makes the final decision concerning academic requirements for admission.
Qualified applicants who did not receive their previous training in philosophy and theology from the University of St. Mary of the Lake will be invited to come for an interview with the administrators of the Ecclesiastical Faculty and select faculty prior to admission into the program. The Administrative Board includes the president of the Ecclesiastical Faculty, the Dean of the Ecclesiastical Faculty, the chair of the department of Systematic Theology, and other faculty invited by the Dean. The purpose of this interview will be to confirm the candidate’s qualifications and to discuss how the program can be of benefit to the applicant and how the applicant can participate in the life and spirit of the Ecclesiastical Faculty and of the University.
