Library Services
The Library Online Catalog may be accessed
through this Website from any computer. Computers in the
Library are located in the computer lab off the Feehan first
floor reading room, in the alcove across from the elevator in
McEssy, and in the McEssy lower level. The Catalog and other Internet resources (e.g., online periodical
indexes, the Encyclopedia Britannica Online) may be accessed on campus through the USML
Semweb.The non-circulating Reference Collection is located on the first floor of Feehan. Reference questions may be submitted in person, by e-mail (lolley@usml.edu), telephone (847-970-4833) or by fax (847-566-5229). Reference assistance is not available on weekends. The Circulation Policy is posted in the library and on the University intranet. Materials that are not owned by the library can be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Requests for materials can be made to any staff member. Interlibrary Loans generally take 7 days to fulfill. Rare Books, Special Collections, USML theses and dissertations are made available through the Library Director. Copy Machines are on the first floor of Feehan, and in McEssy in the alcove across from the elevator. Copy cards are required and may be purchased at the circulation desk in Feehan. Current issues of Periodicals can be found in the computer lab off the Feehan first floor. Bound issues are shelved in alphabetical order on the Feehan first floor and first mezzanine levels. Periodicals do not circulate. Newspapers are available in the McEssy first floor gallery. Materials placed on Course Reserve are located on shelves behind the Feehan circulation desk. Users may set up Reserved Study space for the quarter. The process is outlined on the blue “In House Reserve” forms available at the Feehan circulation desk. Books identified as Folio or Oversize are shelved in a separate section on the McEssy lower level. |
Who can check out materials? USML Faculty, USML seminarians, USML STL students, USML LI students, USML DMin, USML Staff, Chicago Priests, ACTS Patrons and registered guests can all check out materials. Guests who wish to check out materials should contact the Library Director, Lorraine Olley. How many books can I check out?
How long may I borrow materials? Circulating materials may be checked out for 5 weeks. They can be renewed for an additional 5 weeks. Periodicals, reference books, and special collections do not circulate. Reserve materials are designated for either 3 hours or 1 day. How do I make copies? Copy machines are available for use by patrons on the first floor of the Feehan and McEssy wings of the library. To use the machines all users (except faculty) must purchase a copy card from the circulation desk. The cards are $6 for the first card, and $5 with the return of an empty copy card.
