Pastoral Associate

The pastoral associate is a generalist in ministry who has completed a M.Div. or M.A.P.S. degree from an accredited graduate school of theology, received the Graduate Certificate in Lay Ecclesial Ministry with a  specialization in pastoral ministry from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements for certification by the Archdiocesan Office for Lay Ecclesial Ministry.

While the initial training and ongoing formation are the work of the Department of Ministerial and Continuing Education, certification for ministry is the responsibility of the archbishop, exercised through the certifying agencies of the Archdiocese of Chicago

Director of Religious Education

The director of religious education is a specialist in catechetical ministry who has completed a M.Div., M.R.E. or M.A. in Religious Education from an accredited graduate school of theology , received the Graduate Certificate in Lay Ecclesial Ministry, with a specialization in Religious Education from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements of the Archdiocesan Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry

Principal

The principal is an educational administrator who has completed an M.A. or M.Ed. Degree from a graduate school of education in school supervision or administration.  He / she shall have completed a certificate of studies in catechetical leadership from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements for certification by the Catholic Schools Office.

Coordinator of Religious Education

The coordinator assists a pastor or director of religious education in the operation of the catechetical ministry of a parish.  He / she will have completed B.A. degree or approved certificate from a Catholic college or school of theology, and a certificate of studies in catechetical leadership from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements for certification by the Archdiocesan Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry

 

Coordinator of Youth Ministry

The coordinator assists a pastor or director of religious education in the operation of the catechetical ministry of a parish.  He / she will have completed B.A. degree or approved certificate from a Catholic college or school of theology, and a certificate of studies in catechetical leadership from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements for certification by the Archdiocesan Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry

Deacon

The deacon is an ordained minister of the Catholic Church who serves the archdiocese in the ministries of the Word, the Sacraments and Charity.  Like all clergy, the deacon is assigned to a specific parish or agency for a term.  He will have completed as certificate of studies in Deacon formation from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and fulfilled the requirements for ordination prescribed by the Holy See.  The Office of the Vicar for the Diaconate

Catechist

The catechist is a teacher of the faith who serves in a variety of settings in the local church.  A baptized member of Christ’s faithful, the catechist serves in such roles as  teacher in a religious education program.  She or he will have completed a Basic Certificate in Catechesis from the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry or the University of Saint Mary of the Lake.

Catholic School Teacher

The Catholic School Teacher is a professional educator with state certification as a teacher (Type 03, 04, 09, 10, 29 or equivalent).  Additionally, in the first three years of his or her employment, the teacher much complete a Basic Certificate in Catechesis from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake.
